I have a June 2012 Macbook pro (15 inch base model-nonretina). Apps take ridiculously long to open in OSX (Mountain Lion). When I use bootcamp to go into Windows 7, however, my computer is fast, apps open quickly, and games run on high. It doesn't matter what app I try to open; even system preferences takes a good 20-30 seconds to open in OSX. I shouldn't have to buy an SSD when my old 2006 HP Pavilion performed better than this. I noticed this even the first time I turned it on. I don't have many apps installed, either. I use ccleaner on a regular basis. I purchased this in August 2012 from MacMall. Nothing seems to help at all. Any suggestions are appreciated.

- The same apps take the same time (mostly over an hour) to open afte the computer has powered on. After they have started working I can open and close apps freely. I also get other problems such as the brightness function stops working so sometimes after closing and opening the lid, the screen stays black even though it is clearly on.
- Scan your Mac for viruses. Sometimes, malicious programs and files on your computer can be the reason of poor Internet speed. Open CleanMyMac X Malware Removal and the app will automatically make your Mac clean. Regularly update software and firmware. Access Software Update via the Apple menu and see whether you might have missed a macOS update.
- Until now, Gatekeeper didn't take the same approach with apps launched via Terminal. It also didn't check non-quarantined apps and files for malware. In other words, it checked an app only once for malware. Significant changes have arrived with macOS Catalina. Now, apps started through Terminal are also checked.

Head to Settings - General - Background App Refresh to see a list of apps on your iPhone that are currently allowed to continue running even when they’re not open. I don’t recommend turning off Background App Refresh entirely, because as we said before, allowing certain apps to run in the background is most definitely a good thing. With Screen Time, you can see your app usage, pickups, how many notifications you’re inundated with and other stats that help you take control of your smartphone addiction. Kirk McElhearn says the main issue seems to be that Screen Time for Mac displays how long apps are open rather than actually showing which apps are frontmost when you work.
